Encouragement, motivation, and self-esteem.

  1. An initial phone consultation about whether this is the right path for your child.
  2. This is then followed by a face-to-face online meeting with you and your child to check internet connections are strong enough.
  3. Background information gathering from yourself and your child’s school.
  1. Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessments are available for pupils from 10 years of age up to and including 18 years of age.
  2. The assessment – this can take up to 5 hours and can be split over two days at no extra cost.
  3. Some of the assessment papers will be sent to you via post before the assessment.  These should not be opened until asked by the assessor.  The rest of the assessment will be completed through a shared screen with the assessor.
  4. The assessment will be followed with a post-assessment phone call within 48 hours of the assessment to discuss results and findings.

The report – this will be approximately 35 pages in length and will provide an explanation of how your child performed in the assessments, their strengths and weaknesses, the diagnostic outcome and key recommendations.

As I hold an Assessment Practicing Certificate this means that this report would allow your child to apply for DSA should they wish to go on to Higher Education.

“In November 2018, the Department of Education (DfE) announced that a diagnostic assessment conducted at any age, which results in a diagnosis of dyslexia, will be accepted as part of an application for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA). However, these reports will only be accepted if written by an assessor holding a valid APC at the time of the assessment (or an HCPC psychologist). As reports conducted at any age may be used for DSA purposes, it is recommended that all assessors should now hold an APC”

“Dyslexia is not a pigeonhole to say you can’t do anything. It is an opportunity and a possibility to learn differently. You have magical brains, they just process differently. Don’t feel like you should be held back by it.”
